Synthetic biology dyes

A synthetic biology company called Huue is going forward to create dye’s from bacteria. The cool part is that they are taking machinery that is in plants and introducing them into bacteria.
An advantage is that you could manipulate and then come up with new dyes. The dye Huue has started with is called Indigo and is the first dye that was made from plants and used for clothes.
They are going to create a similar product but produced in bateria. So what are the advantages – fast production and the ability to modify to exact specifications but it is probably not as cheap as producing from a plant which has very low production costs.
Time will tell whether this business model will work…

    Adeno associated virus

Adeno associated virus (AAV) has been one of major interests for gene therapy. AAV was discovered in 1965 as a contaminant of adeno virus and hence the name. It is 22nm and low pathogenicity because no polymerase and cannot replicate till there is co-infector. Genome map is 4.7kb. 145 nucleotides inverted terminal repeats at both…

  • Morphological length

In alligator length estimation, the snout-eye-length is an approximation of length used for some species and speaks about proportionality of growth. For example, each inch length from the eye of the crocodile to the end of the snout equals the length of the alligator. For example 3 inches of snout-eye-length implies that the alligator is…
