Flow

A creatively arranged set of broken and whole yellow pencils on a white background, emphasizing selective focus.

The father of focus was Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi an American Hungarian psychiatrist who associated focus with happiness. His contention was that true happiness comes from doing things in flow. Flow was designed as something that had enough challenge that makes it exciting while at the same time not being boring. For example, passive activities such as TV watching are considered that takes low skills and low challenges.

Focus tends to compact time so that the involvement takes the focuser from beginning to end without them realizing it. The concentration is absolute.

    Muscarinic drugs and receptors

There are many G-protein coupled receptors and one of the major categories for neurological drug development are called muscarinic receptors because they were first known to be activated by a mushroom alkaloid called muscarine. The isolation and characterization of muscarine was first reported by chemists in 1869! Muscarine works by mimicking the neurotransmitter acteylcholine on…

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is thought to be neuro-developmental disorder that is thought to have a genetic component since it is heritable as shown from the twin and family studies. • Tau

There is so much known about the Tau protein but we still have a lot to understand about its role in diseases. In disorders where Tau is the major protein that is involved – the primary taupathies – such as Pick’s disease and Progressive supranuclear palsy, it is clear that Tau has a major effect…

    Alzhiemer’s psychosis

Alzheimer’s psychosis is distinct from the slow progression of Alzheimer’s and indicates a more severe phenotype in which cognitive decline starts even before psychosis onset. It is thought to originate/localized in neocortex rather than medial temporal lobe. There is currently only one drug that targets Alzheimer’s psychosis. It is called Rexulti (Brexipipazole). It is specifically…

    Open source protein models

A company called Profluent (profluent.bio) has been developing protein models that can be used for designing new proteins (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-022-01618-2), modeling of new CRISPR-Cas sequences (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-025-09298-z) and developing LLM for protein generation (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.11.12.688125v1.article-info). What is amazing is that they have open sourced all their models and Profluent-E1 is available in GitHub to download and use. (https://github.com/Profluent-AI/E1)…
