Baxter robotics – a robot for everyone

For most people the concept of robotics is scary. It means automatic machines that take engineers to program and then they operate like automatons performing repeated functions over and over again till they are stopped. If you are in the way of the operations, then it means destruction to you!

However, a new company “rethink robotics” has been making a big difference to the way we think about robotics. The robot is essentially two arms that can be easily programmed by copying the actions. It has so many nice features that they are tough to list but the simplest things from their brochure is:

  • No programming required
  • No safety cages
  • No complicated integration
  • It works intelligently, versatile and is an extensible platform.

With all the assays that are done routinely in a laboratory, this would make a perfect addition to any lab. But the feature that makes it very endearing is the face that they have on the screen that conveys so much meaning and does not take a genius to recognize the stage of the robot. Rather than list all the endearing features here the website below will tell you all about this robot.

A human instinct seems to support collection. It may have originated from collection of food and collecting for the hard times…but… the collection seems to progress into other objects.
