Lifestraw – simple device that is very useful.

People in developed countries fail to realize the problems that face citizens of countries that have to fight to get pure water to drink. There have been a few technologies for that but the easiest one has been the use of a Lifestraw made by a company called Vestergaard Frandsen. The specifications are impressive: it can remove LOG 6 or 99.9999% of the bacteria from water, 99.9%waterborne protozoan parasites and has a 0.2 micron filter. It is available in Amazon for $20 in the US.

However, its significant advantage comes from the simplicity. No power requirement, no fussy pumps – a simple straw that enables the user to drink straight from the source using the straw.

The story of the company is very interesting, Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen developed his familial company that was in textile manufacturing to produce Lifestraw after seeing the poverty in developing nations. He has previously liked operated a business in Nigeria as well as New Delhi, India and so aware of the difficulties in those countries. See the video below on the difference one company makes to health of millions.
