Examples of use of data mining techniques – E book readers

There is a great value in Ebook readers. Yes, they are very convenient to have a lot of books available to read and reading them is much easier with a screen, instead of messing with paper and other tools. However, the big value of Ebook readers is to the seller of books. Typically, they did not have much information about the reading habits of people – they knew about the buying habits from the loyalty programs but had no idea on the reading habits. This is like saying that you knew that people bought food but you did not know when or what they consumed.  Ebook readers with their umbical link to the cloud based supplier of books now could track very easily what people read, when, and how.

This is a big incentive for Amazon or Barnes and Noble as a supplier of books and they made many interesting observations.

Look at one observation that Barnes and Noble made: People stop reading non-fiction books half the way through. Well, if you know that then the incentive for a reader to buy about half the way that they are through the book is high and is probably the best time that you would propose another book suggestion or a sale.

Wonder what other observations could be made now that you know the reading habits of people?
