Most current clinical trials in the US are tracked through clinicaltrials.gov website. If we look at the top 10,000 titles and do an analysis of the most commonly used words that are utilized in the titles then you get an interesting perspective on what are the studies that are being done currently.
Note that many trials seem to target cancer and most of them look for safety and efficacy

One Danger of working with digital health companies
There was once a company that engineered a very good sensor . This sensor measured whether you were sitting up straight in your chair or slouching. If you slouched it sent a small vibration and reminded you. The market need that they targeted was that people needed to sit straight for their back and this…
Measuring heartbeat from 3 feet away – Electric potential sensors
Robert Prance’s team at University of Sussex in UK have discovered and created a unique electric potential sensor that is a perfect voltmeter and can measure a heart beat from nearly 3 feet away. It measures the spatial electrical potential or field. This has been difficult since the electrometers that measure voltage, electric charge or…
Conversions: How to use Mil/gauge/inches as measurement units for Needles, Wires, Sheet-Metal, and Plastic Vinyl.
Conversions get very confusing easily, especially when the standards are defined differently for different items and are also different across countries. It is important to understand what do the terms mean for a medical device manufacturer. Here are the basics: The standard Standards are below and they are all linear simple formulas to correlate with…
New way to sense chemicals in body fluids
Sensing chemicals or metabolites in human body is difficult and new technologies are requiredSeveral sensors exist for measuring specific compounds in body fluids in vitro and in vivo. The common ones to sense glucose and lactate use and enzyme that is coupled to some electronic moiety that then generates a signal. This signal is then…
Sensors on the cheap
There are many sensors that go into devices, such as temperature sensors, pressure sensors or even hemoglobin oxygenation sensors. Many of the sensors are made by engineers to be very precise and also very linear in their response. However, they are expensive and most hobbyist look for alternatives to the sensors. Sometimes, it is possible…
Innovative clinical trial design
There have been several studies that show that innovative trial design is required and in August 2018, FDA launched a program that would encourage novel clinical trial designs. They have issued guidance on novel trial design such as an expansion cohort which seeks to expand the clinical trial by allowing various cohorts into early phases…
