Ole Kirk Christiansen, was a carpenter who founded LEGO toys. His story is very inspiring and amazing to see how one carpenter in one country takes it forward to create a great worldwide company. The motivating story is told to every LEGO employee but from the beginning to success was no easy road.
Ole’s wife died the year that he founded LEGO, leaving him 4 young children to raise and also a business to run. Though he re-married, the times were hard. The great depression was in full swing, and Germany occupied Denmark during World War II. His building was destroyed in a fire that not only destroyed the building but also all blueprints for new toys. He still persisted and his company is an active company today.
Another thing to remember is that he was a good carpenter but only when he made the choice between carpentry and toys, did things start to change.
