Massachusetts as Biotechnology hub

We are based in Massachusetts and have believed that the Biotech industry has been booming in this state. A recently released report by MassBio seconds the view. There are some interesting perspectives from the report. The full report can be downloaded from the MassBio website here:

In Biotech R&D, MA is number second behind California though that may be a reflection of the number of companies or population of researchers that are in California.
The largest 7 employers are the large Pharma in order – Sanofi, Shire, Biogen, Novartis, Pfizer, Takeda and Vertex and obviously they are occupying space since the commercial lab space has nearly doubled in the last 10 years.
This has led to huge venture capital investment and companies raised a combined total of $3.7B in venture investments which is probably more than the GDP of a few small countries. The investors are coming from all over the USA and in case of Series A & B – outside the world too.
What are the company scientists working on ? Nearly 35% is cancer, seconded by Neurology 11% and Infections at 9%.
