The quantified self movement tries to quantify the self through measurement of every bodily function. This has lead to development of a lot of devices. The one device that is made by a company called Asthamapolis. This company has put a GPS on an inhaler to figure out where people have the most asthma. Quantified self in a different way.
This essentially is not something that is unique device. GPS’s exist, and so does the inhaler. This is just interesting combination of both of them. The interesting thing would be to determine whether such a device is useful. This device could determine where you got the worst asthma and what was special about that – however, there are several things that could easily confuse the issue.
Using the inhaler does not mean that the allergens are located there – for example, a person could easily inhale the allergens and then come back home and use the inhaler or use the inhaler in the car.
Inhaler location does not necessarily will help, but it is something in the direction of data collection. It will need use by thousands or hundreds of thousands of people to determine whether this will become useful. Only then, would its utility be determined.
